First Wave Feminism (1830's - 1920's)
The objective of First Wave Feminism was to establish political power and Universal Suffrage first. First Wave Feminists believed that If they had the political power first, then they could expand their agenda to sexual, economical, and social issues.
Seneca Falls (July 1848)On July of 1848, two feminists Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott held the first organized women's rights convention in U.S. history. At the gathering, over three-hundred men and women came to protest the mistreatment of women socially, economically, politically, and under religious laws. Here, The Decleration of Sentiments and Resolutions was created, it demanded that women be treated as equals and given suffrage. It was modeled after The Decleration of Indepedance. The 19th Ammendment was ratified, and women finally achieved suffrage on August 18, 1920.
